Unlike the 2028 race for the Democratic presidential nomination, which is already happening in plain sight, the battle to succeed Donald Trump as the GOP nominee in three years time is a much more delicate dance. That’s because Trump himself continues to toy with the notion — or at least troll his opponents with the notion — that he could run again (for an unconstitutional 3rd term). At his meeting Monday with the four top Congressional leaders in the House and Senate, Trump made sure that “Trump 2028” hats were prominently placed on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office (and then shared those pics on his Truth Social site).
